Two Week Look Ahead

Two Week Look Ahead - September 22, 2017

Good afternoon. The school year is in full swing and it is officially fall. It’s hard to say goodbye to summer, but the fall season brings lots of activity to LHS. Hopefully, you will find the time to come support our students in their extra-curricular activities.

Thank you to all who attended the Open House we had last week. It was great to see so many people here and invested in their student’s education. I had a few people ask me about the availability of the weight room for student use outside of the school day. For the foreseeable future, Mr. Short and I will be opening the weight room/cardio room, before school on Monday - Thursday, from 6:40 am – 7:40 am. Students will need to enter through the main entrance to the building. This is open to all students!

The Homecoming/Float season is upon us. The theme for Homecoming this year is Children’s Books. The Classes have chosen:

  • Seniors - Winnie the Pooh
  • Juniors - Curious George
  • Sophomores – Where the Wild Things Are
  • Freshmen – The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Homecoming is on Saturday, October 14. The parade will start from Turkey Hill Elementary School at noon. The football game will kick off at 2:00 pm against Ayer-Shirley Regional High School.

On Sunday, October 15 the Lunenburg PTO will be putting on the Miles for Myles Run/Walk/Ride. The bike ride starts at 11:00 am, followed by the 1 mile fun run at noon, and the 5K at 12:30 pm. The school with the most participation will receive $1000 to go toward a guest speaker or a need in the building. It should be a great weekend.

At the Open House, I spoke about community forum (The Lunenburg Resources for Opioid Awareness and Recovery Task Force “ROAR”) coming to the Lunenburg Middle High School auditorium on Tuesday, October 24 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. There will be a panel that will include: a parent of a child who died from an overdose, Lunenburg young adults in long term recovery, Mike Duggan (founder of Wicked Sober), Lunenburg Police and Fire officers, and Brian O’Connor (Addiction Specialist from Middlesex Recovery.) Following the panel discussion, the film, “If Only”, created by James Wahlberg and the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, will be presented. The feedback I have heard on the film has been excellent. I hope you can take the time to come out for this important event. The opioid crisis is here and it’s time we face it!

The Athletic Advisory Council will hold their first meeting on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:00 pm at LMHS. This meeting is open to the public.

There is still time to register for PSAT’s. Register and make payment of $25 at www.TotalRegistration.net/PSAT/221255.

Friday, September 29, 2017 @ 11:59pm - Registration Ends

Tuesday, Oct 3, 2017 – Mandatory PSAT/NMSQT pre-administration session during advisory for all students that have registered and paid.

Wednesday, Oct 11, 2017 – PSAT/NMSQT exam at LHS. Exam starts at 8:00 am. Students that arrive late are not permitted to test.

The annual College Financing Seminar is being held at Lunenburg Middle High School on Wednesday, September 27th at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. The seminar is presented by the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) and designed for parents of students in grades 6-12 to provide information and clarity on the entire college financial aid process. Topics covered include the application process, types of financial aid, the factors that determine your aid eligibility, how colleges determine the amount of aid to offer, and the details of the award letter. Parents/guardians often remark that they wish they had understood more when their children were younger. It is never too early to begin thinking about how you will finance your child’s education.

Just a reminder that we do not allow bikes, skateboards, scooters, or roller blades on the tennis courts or outdoor basketball courts. Please use those spaces for their intended use.
